Look at that cute little dollop of shea!

Hello, fellow shea butter lover!

I’m Simone, and I’m extremely excited and elated that you found your way to ilovesheabutter.com!

Shea butter and I have a personal love affair, going back years, and today I consider myself to be the number one fan of this natural plant butter, no kidding! A few years ago I had the opportunity to get up close and personal with the source of shea butter in Central Africa, and this experience only further increased my love for shea butter, in ways I never thought possible!

I have been making my own DIY hair masks, shampoo, skin care potions, lip balms and more using shea butter for a long time now. My friends and family always turn to me for all things related to shea butter. They actually started writing down my recipes and using them in day-to-day life. It made me positively proud and happy to know that I was helping them in a natural, side-effect-free way – and that’s when it occurred to me that I should start a blog cataloging my shea butter recipes and more, so that it can be of use to everyone who loves shea butter. I want you to be a shea butter lover, too, because trust me, this plant butter has so many benefits, it is a SUPER ingredient that everyone needs to know about!

What Shea Butter Means to Me

Using shea butter means much more to me is more than just slathering on an oil and hoping for the best. For me, shea butter is a sign of freedom. Freedom from the shackles of consumerism, that has you slave to choosing various store-bought products are toxic and don’t even work. Freedom from the guilt of forgetting the ways of my ancestors. Freedom of being like everyone else, using conventional products. Freedom from toxins (artificial fragrances, parabens, triclosan etc) that are packed in conventional products.  Yes, shea butter means so much to me, friends!

Back to My Roots

For those of us with colored skin and curly hair, shea butter is nothing short of a form of liberation – using your own homemade hair products and skin products emancipates you from having to buy generic hair/skin products that imply you have to look a certain way, or have hair that looks a certain way because shea butter is a gateway to enabling you nourish your natural hair and skin and make it thrive!

Shea butter is a way to be creative, by making up your own self-care products in your own home with shea, custom tailored to your unique needs, instead of mindlessly buying consumer products that are bombarded to us in advertisements.

But most of all, shea butter takes us back to our roots, to the cradle of mankind, Africa. What’s more, most shea butter harvesting and processing is done by women. In Africa, women are known to contribute 80% of the labor in agriculture, compared to men who only contribute 20% to food production. When you buy shea, you are directly supporting the livelihoods of those women, empowering them to live better quality lives.

My Favorite Shea Products

Rest assured that I would never recommend products that I wouldn’t personally use on myself or my family. I mostly buy raw shea by the bulk, but people often ask me if I have any favorite shea products – as a matter of fact, I do. For the sake of not having to repeat myself, I have listed all these products under links found at the top of this site.
